Abstract

13:00--14:00Mase, ShigeruTokyo Institute of TechnologyIntroduction of open-source statistical analysis environment R

R is a free implement of the statistical language and environment S. It will be an international common workbench of all the statistical methods in near future. R is a complete language and, in order to ease interactive data analysis, has a variety of system functions other languages do not have. R has a high-grade graphics, interfaces to foreign languages, database systems and data files. Apart from statistical analysis, R is an ideal tool for easy and intuitive programmings, simulations and numerical analysis. In this talk, I will introduce an outline and merits of R mainly for non-statistician audience.

14:10--14:40Arai, NorikoNational Institute of InformaticsNetCommons for your project management

It is the recent trend to introduce content management systems (CMS) to support intellectual collaborative working. National Institute of Informatics has been developing a CMS, called NetCommons, from 2001. By using NetCommons, users can effectively share knowledge and information on the Internet. NetCommons consists of three different layers. The fist layer is called Toppage, which is open for the public, and used as the portal site. The second layer is called MyRoom which is designed for the virtual private office. The third layer is called GroupRoom which can be used as a groupware, suitable for virtual collaborative learning and working spaces. By installing NetCommons, one gains CMS, groupware, mailinglist, e-learning, portal site and virtual private office at the same time on one server. We believe that NetCommons deserves for the title of genuine one-stop service.

15:00--15:30Samukawa, HikaruTokyo Research Laboratory, IBM Japan, Ltd.A Semi-automatic Generation of Presentation Documents from LaTeX Articles

We present a method of translating article style LaTeX documents to slide (seminar class) documents. This approach is similar to the general purpose programming environments such as C, where compiler directives are conveniently used to cover multiple computing environments. If the LaTeX source text is prepared under the rule of "one sentence in one record", it is not so difficult for script programming such as Perl to extract specific environments such as figure, equation, table, and the records specified by the directives then to generate new source text for slides.

15:40--16:10Waki, KatsushiYamagata UniversityFinite group theory with GAP

I will introduce my challenge of teaching the theory of finite groups with GAP which is included in KNOPPIX/Math. We see a success and a failure of my lecture for getting finite groups in the concrete. And we consider how to use GAP as an educational tool.

16:20--16:50Takahashi, SunaoLightstone Corp.Introduction of The Open Computer Algebra System "MuPAD"

MuPAD Pro 4 is an opne computer algebla system for symbolic and numeric computing. I will introduce this tool's summary and its basic features. Also I will explain the operation in the field of education using its flexible license system.
